Your biggest mistake might be not filling out the bio page...

In January I was contacted by an agent(who has an impressive track record)about my novel, The Thatcher Head. The agent read one chapter on the public site and then my bio. The novel did not work for her after chapter 22 (another story), but the reason she contacted me originally was because I appeared to be a person she could work with, based on my biographical information (which I fudged a bit).

To make a long (but interesting) story short, I marketed myself on the review fuse bio page in a manner that reflected my writing, personality and got a nibble. In thinking about her (hunting for authors to sell) logic I realized she was very keen and discriminating to find amicable personalities that she would work with over the long haul.

Hard working agents have a nose for what sells and they are obviously sniffing all around this site. It behooves authors on RF to create a marketable persona on the bio page, make intelligent comments on the forums and take their reviews and work's reviewed very seriously and professionally.

The agent who contacted me is a long time member on this site (poetry). She asked me not to divulge her identity. So back to work for me...

cool, is she interested in profane limericks, cuz that's all the poetry I know (it's a joke, but not about the limericks)

wizardwriter

max, is the thatcher head autobiographical?

An enjoyable read, take it from a "newbie" to peer review! It is not always easy to face ones critic... and although to the unpublished writer (that would be me), having your peers read your work is much more pleasant then offering up what you perceive as your child (no matter how irrational it may seem), to the critique of total strangers who like you and I exist only momentarily as mere pixels in an alternate reality where anonymity creates monsters of us all. Not a very comforting place for the soft hide of the fledgling writer. Yet after reading your story I found myself in a much better place, encouraged and perhaps a bit more assured. Maybe there is a place where those who for whatever reason have never pursued their passion for the written word.. perhaps it is here. Thanks you for easing the first flight of this fledgling's leap of faith.

Hi Vienna - not autobiographical at all. I picked England to start because to me all mystery fiction starts with Homelock Sheers and Dr. Whats-his-name. I went to google maps and looked for a long steep road in England where my opening action could take place on a dark and stormy night.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a rewrite/adaption of Treasure Island as Sci-Fi or Zombie fiction (besides the Johnny Depp Pirate stuff)?

maxkeanu

Weirdly enough, Disney actually did a "sci-fi Treasure Island" thingy.

DangerPuppy

Aloha Puppy - Oh yes...that. Thanks. Just finished Treasure Island... what a great read! Talk about dialog that hits the mark!!! Silver must be the best anti-hero ever created!

maxkeanu

Yeah, it's called "Treasure Planet. @ DangerPuppy and maxkeanu
