How short is a short story?

Are there rules to how far a short story should go? I'm just wondering.

some will say you can go up to 20,000 words (depends on the genre), then it becomes a novella- if you're posting most like to review in 5,000 word chunks (chapter length, again depending on genre), nothing much past 10,000 or you'll get a lot of passes- YA + stories for younger kids a chapter is about half adult fiction- this is my opinion, and might be a bit off, but will give you something to start with

But what happens if your first half is reviewed then the second part is reviewed by the second part. And they get completely different reviews because the second part is confusing to them?

tell you what request me i'll do the whole thing for you, you can submit in whole, beg forgiveness and not to hold it against you, but you couldn't see breaking it up
